Husband shares the moments surrounding her death

The cause of Heidy Arteaga’s death was finally determined more than three months after the local mother-of-four, who was expecting her fifth child, passed away at age 40.

Heidy died on May 7 of a rare disease called lymphocytic myocarditis, said Anthony Arteaga, her husband of eight years who lives in Four Points. Their unborn daughter, Chloe Nicole Arteaga, also died that morning.

Triggered by a virus, Heidy’s heart was inflamed and the swelling caused her heart to beat unusually fast, so fast that it stopped, Arteaga explained. He found out from the coroner two weeks ago.

Vandegrift swim & dive hosts Black vs Silver

The Vandegrift swim and dive team hosted its annual Black vs Silver event in Steiner Ranch on Friday with its team of 43 swimmers and one diver.

Teammates were pitted against each other during the event, which was held at John Simpson Park pool on Aug. 24.  

“The silver team took an early lead with a double win in the belly flop contest,” said Genevieve Walsh, head swim and dive coach. “It was a close meet but the black team pulled ahead after the 100 free and remained in the lead for the rest of the meet.”

The Vipers held their seventh annual senior/dad campout on the afternoon of Aug. 18 at the Brigham Double Horn Ranch just south of Marble Falls to grow off-field connections of senior players and the men they cherish most.

Long, hot bus rides in Leander ISD — especially in the Four Points area — have been the focus of many parents, school administrators and staff. Triple digit temperatures last week coupled with the fact LISD buses do not have air conditioning, and that students sit in hot buses longer — more than an hour in cases — because the traffic has been extremely congested leaving Vandegrift and Four Points Middle School from the one exit.
