Denison enjoys head coach spot for Vandegrift Swim & Dive

A wave of excitement rushed over her after receiving a phone call from head coach Drew Sanders just days before the school year started in August, offering her the position as head swim coach. Amidst the celebration of this new position, the phone rang again. Unsure of what to expect, she was greeted with principal Charlie Little on the other line, and an offer to teach business as well. Lisa Denison, one of the new business teachers and the head swim coach, faced some unusual circumstances with her new job on campus.

“I literally was hired two days before school started, which is not the best way to start out a new job,” Denison said. “But it’s just the situation we were in. Everybody’s been amazingly helpful.”

FPMS Gateway students create a foot orthosis

Seventh grade Gateway students at Four Points Middle School were approached earlier this school year with the task of creating a foot orthosis for children with cerebral palsy.  

“Students had to stick to a strict budget and a limited material supply to insure that they were not wasting money or materials,” said Sherry Grace, FPMS Gateway teacher.

LISD Trustees, Superintendent find common ground

2020-21 calendar, new courses  approved at board meeting

The Leander Independent School District Board of Trustees approved new course proposals, adopted the academic calendar for the 2020–21 school year, talked budget, and received a construction update at the Dec. 12 board meeting.  

Also the LISD board and Superintendent Bruce Gearing are finding some common ground when it comes to their collaborative effort to redefine performance objectives for Goals 1-7 of the District Improvement Plan that was approved at a prior meeting in November.
