Preserve at 620 office site to open, Former Walmart is transformed

The former Walmart site near Grandview Hills is now the Preserve at 620 and it’s sporting a pocket park with outdoor seating, a dog run and state-of-the-art fitness center. The site offers tenants much more than just its 225,000-square-feet of office space.

The approximately $46.5 million project that renovates and expands the former superstore at 8201 N. RM 620 is nearing completion. In January, the site developer will welcome its first tenant, the corporate headquarters for automotive supplier Innovative Aftermarket Systems, said Aquila Commercial Senior Vice President Joe Simmons.

UT golf ball theft exposed, Club asks community for help

The University of Texas Golf Club has had $25,000 worth of golf balls stolen over the past two years, and is now hoping the public can help solve the case through recently obtained photos of the crimes in action.

“There have been seven different occasions (where golf balls have been stolen) in the past two years” said Steve Termeer, general manager and chief operating officer at UT Golf Club.

Viper grad, UT student to ride from Austin to Alaska

Maria Krychniak — 2015 Vandegrift graduate and future 2019 University of Texas graduate from Steiner Ranch — plans to bike more than 4,000 miles from Austin to Anchorage, Ala. this coming summer as part of Texas 4000 for Cancer.

“This might seem like something crazy to do, but this cause is incredibly important to me,” Krychniak said.

“I have witnessed myself feel helpless and hopeless when it comes to comforting some of my best friends and family members left in cancer’s destructive wake,” she said.

2222 work begins on bypass project

The right of way is being cleared along RM 2222 in preparation for utilities to be moved in the first stages of the $23.6 million bypass project, according to Texas Department of Transportation.

Clearing of the right of way is visible along RM 2222 between Bonaventure Drive near 2222 Station to Ribelin Ranch Drive near Austin Baptist Church.

“Work to clear the right of way began on Dec. 3,” said Brad Wheelis, TxDOT spokesperson.

“Actual work on roadway should start mid to late January.”

Moving utilities will get underway in earnest in January.
