Janga wins national geography bee, sets new record

The two finalists stood quietly at their podiums at the front of a packed auditorium at the 2019 National Geographic Bee on May 22.

“My heart was pounding and felt like it would come out of my body during the sudden death rounds in the finals,” said Nihar Janga from Steiner Ranch.

VHS graduates 647 students, shines with academic high achievers

Nearly 650 Vandegrift students graduated on June 1 at 8 a.m. at the H-E-B Center in Cedar Park.

Leander ISD graduated more than 2,500 students last weekend including 647 from the Vandegrift class of 2019.

“Is there a better time of year than graduation,” asked Dan Troxell, LISD superintendent. “I am truly inspired and honored to tell people that our current group of public school students – from kindergarten to this graduating class – is the finest collection of young people I have seen in my more than 30 years in education.”

Spring Game: Football, dance, cheer, powderpuff

“Best thing about the spring game (on May 23) was that we again suited up around 200 players for the second straight year and had every athlete compete in front of fans and family. Big plays on the silver team were the touchdowns scored by WR Taylor Dummar from QB Ryan Back and a touchdown run from Cayden Bourque. The silver team also had one interception from Ben Scott. The black team had successful big plays as well from QB Dru Dawson, running back Deangelo Dowdy, and defensive end Matthew Graham. Final score: 17 Silver 0 Black We really appreciate all the support from the Viper community. The spring game was well attended with great performances from the cheerleading squad, Legacies, and future Vipers playing 7 on 7 during halftime. “
