Jobs, schools bring families to affordable housing site

After opening in December, Cardinal Point apartment complex at 11015 Four Points Dr. is at capacity and as of recently, its waitlist is closed, said Donna Williams, director of individual giving and engagement at Foundation Communities, a nonprofit entity that owns the 120-unit complex.

Foundation Communities provides affordable homes with on-site support services including exercise programs, financial management sessions, adult education classes and free after-school and summer academic programming. Comprised of 1-, 2- and 3-bedroom units, the $25 million project features a playground, playing field, on-site laundry room, on-site food pantry and computer lab.

VHS women’s chorale to sing nationally

The Vandegrift varsity women’s choir was chosen to sing at the American Choral Director’s Association national convention in March. The choir surrounds the school seal in the VHS entry. This is the picture that will be featured in the national choir publication called The Choral Journal.

 

The Vandegrift chorale women’s choir was recently selected to perform at the American Choral Director’s Association national convention in March of 2019. These Vipers will be one of only three high school choirs that were chosen from Texas this year.

Friday Night at Viper’s Monroe Memorial

The heavy rains in the late afternoon on Friday did not deter the dedicated Viper fans from coming out in droves to Vandegrift’s Ed W. Monroe Memorial Stadium for football and performances by band, dance and cheer. The student section came decked out for the stars and stripes theme, and hundreds of 8th graders from Canyon Ridge and Four Points middle schools joined VHS students on the field for band, dance and cheer entertainment. The football game went into overtime with the Vipers beating Cedar Ridge by a field goal kick, 17-14 with just over a minute left to play.
